UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest- The UCSD Medical Center is located in the community of Hillcrest, and commands a beautiful view of Mission Valley, Downtown San Diego and Mission Bay. It is the major facility of the UCSD Healthcare System and the primary teaching facility of the UCSD School of Medicine, with 440 beds and a full-time faculty in all areas of medicine. About a quarter of the rotations are spent at the UCSD Medical Center, including our Family Medicine Inpatient Service, Internal Medicine Wards, Labor and Delivery and Emergency Department. The UCSD Medical Center, despite its purchase from the County of San Diego by the University of California in the 1970’s, continues to attract a disproportionate share of under-funded patients for medical care. Our Family Medicine Inpatient Service continues it's commitment to this population of patients by providing inpatient care for these patients on a regular basis throughout the year.

UCSD Thorton Hospital in La Jolla- A more recent addition to the UCSD Healthcare System, UCSD Thornton Hospital is a 120-bed facility located on the eastern portion of the UCSD Campus in La Jolla, California. Family Medicine residents enjoy inpatient experiences in Internal Medicine and Outpatient Surgery at Thornton Hospital and its surrounding facilities.

Rady Children’s Hospital- Rady Children's Hospital and Health Center is a 219-bed facility serving the inpatient needs of the majority of the children of San Diego County. The state-of-the-art hospital is located about 10 minutes from the UCSD Medical Center and provides our residents with the opportunity to care for children with a variety of diseases with supervision provided by UCSD faculty and community pediatricians. In addition to Pediatric Wards, our residents also enjoy an excellent rotation in the Pediatric Emergency Room at RCHHC.

Naval Regional Medical Center (Balboa Naval Hospital)- The Naval Regional Medical Center (Balboa Naval Hospital) is the major Naval Medical Center for the Southwestern United States and the Pacific theater and one of the largest hospitals in the United States. Balboa Naval Hospital has nearly 1,500 beds, and is fully staffed with outstanding faculty. It is the teaching hospital with naval residencies in all disciplines of medicine. It is approximately four miles from the UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest and requires about 10 minutes travel time. Our residents enjoy excellent rotations in Newborn Nursery and Head and Neck Surgery at the Balboa Naval Hospital.

St. Vincent DePaul Village for the Homeless- The family practice center for the Combined Family Medicine and Psychiatry Residency Program, St. Vincent DePaul Village for the Homeless is also the location of a longitudinal community medicine experience within the residency program curriculum that focuses on the care of the under-funded and homeless. During all three training years residents in the Family Medicine Residency Program work with this unique population in a comprehensive facility that serves all the needs of San Diego’s Homeless.

Veteran’s Administration Hospital- The Veteran’s Administration Hospital is located in La Jolla directly adjacent to the UCSD School of Medicine. It is a large facility with about 800 beds. Faculty, residents and medical students of the UCSD School of Medicine staff the hospital and care for its patient population. Our residents do rotations in Inpatient Internal Medicine, Medical Intensive Care, and Dermatology at the VA.

Kaiser Permanente- Kaiser Permanente is America’s leading integrated nonprofit health plan. Founded in 1945, it is a group practice prepayment program headquartered in Oakland, CA. Kaiser Permanente began serving San Diego in 1967, and currently provides care for nearly 500,000 members throughout the county. Today it encompasses the nonprofit Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and their subsidiaries, and the for-profit Southern California Permanente Medical Group. Over 6,500 staff and more than 830 physicians care for members at 20 medical facilities and at Kaiser Permanente's San Diego Medical Center. The Medical Center has 392 licensed beds and a 56 bed Emergency Department. Resident rotations include Outpatient Pediatrics, Emergency Room, electives and Outpatient Geriatrics.

UCSD La Jolla Clinic- The newest continuity location, the UCSD La Jolla clinic also houses our Sports Medicine Fellows. Clinical services include care of acute problems, office procedures, and Sports medicine services to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints.

UCSD 4th and Lewis Clinic- Lewis is about 6 blocks away from the Hillcrest hospital, an easy walk. The clinic provides care for large number of ethnically diverse patients who have complex medical problems. Faculty has a variety of interests: Pediatrics, Geriatrics; OB (one of them does C-sections), Dermatology and Practice Management.

UCSD Scripps Ranch Clinic-Scripps is located in northern San Diego approximately 20 minutes north of Hillcrest Hospital and 20 minutes east of Thornton Hospital. The clinic provides care ethnically diverse patients. The faculty has diverse interests including OB, Sports Medicine, Dermatology, Pediatrics, and Practice Management.
